Which AI translates my book?

Crossleaf Standard, unless you choose otherwise. Standard is included in your membership and picks the right engine for the language itself; the premium models are there by name if you would rather choose.

By default, Crossleaf Standard. You choose the book; Crossleaf handles the AI.

Standard is not one fixed thing, and that is the point. It picks what suits the language it is reading, and if a passage comes back short or odd it tries that passage again on something stronger, by itself, before it ever asks you anything. All of that is covered by your membership, and none of it needs a decision from you. We change what sits behind Standard whenever our testing says something better has arrived; you will notice only that the translations are good.

If you would rather choose

Open Choose the AI, on the book page under the chapter list and in the reader's toolbar. They are the same control, and your choice is remembered on this device until you change it back. The premium models are listed there by name, each with its price in leaves for the chapters you have ticked.

Once you have chosen one, the rule is simple: what is in the picker when you press the button is what runs.

  • Translate (a chapter, a selection, or the whole book): what the picker says.
  • Retranslate from the reader: what the picker says, which is how you try a different model on a chapter you already have. The earlier version stays in the version list.
  • Polish: what the picker says.
  • Retry a piece from the reader's Pieces panel: what the picker says at that moment.
  • Retry on another model, on a premium piece that came back incomplete: the panel suggests the next one up for you.

One exception: Retry from the book page, through the Pieces link on a failed chapter. There is no picker on that page, so the retry uses whatever made that version.

Every version records what produced it, and every premium receipt names the model it charged for, so you can always check afterwards. Names and terms are noted by a small helper of ours after each piece; that work is included and does not depend on the picker.
