Why did my chapter fail, and was I charged?
Models sometimes stop before the end, or don't answer at all. You keep whatever was written and pay only for the model's work; if nothing came back, nothing is charged.
A chapter shows Translation failed when the model could not finish. The usual causes:
- The model went quiet. A chapter is streamed as it is written, and an answer that simply stops arriving is cut off. Nothing is hurried along for taking its time, so a slow model is not the problem; retry the pieces that failed.
- The provider refused the text. A few models have content filters that return nothing for certain passages, including some literary classics. Another model will usually translate the same chapter without complaint.
- A temporary outage at the provider. Wait a few minutes and retry.
On Crossleaf Standard. A piece that fails is tried again on something stronger, by itself, before you are told anything — so most of these never reach you. If every step has been tried and the piece still will not come, the chapter is marked failed and you can retry it. None of that costs leaves; it counts toward your month (or your free allowance) like the rest of the chapter.
On a premium model, what happens to your leaves. Sometimes a model stops before the end, or doesn't answer at all. Long chapters, and models that think for a long time before they write, are where it happens most.
- If the model wrote part of the chapter, you keep that part, you're charged for it, and the piece is marked Cut short so you can retry the rest.
- If the model spent time thinking and then stopped before writing anything, you're charged for that time. The receipt shows it as a charge with nothing to read.
- If nothing came back at all, nothing is charged and the leaves that were held are returned.
The receipt in your account says which of these it was. If some pieces of a long chapter fail while the rest succeed, the chapter keeps what finished, even if you leave the page. Each failed piece has its own Retry in the chapter's pieces view, and retrying one piece does not retry the others, so press Retry on each failed piece. The chapter counts as finished once every piece is done.
