Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Crossleaf: who can use it, how memberships, leaves and packs work, what you may upload, and the limits of our responsibility.

Effective 21 September 2026.

These terms are an agreement between you and Crossleaf, operated by its founder as a sole proprietor in California, United States ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using crossleaf.app or the Crossleaf Capture extension, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Who can use Crossleaf

You must be 18 or older. You are responsible for keeping your password private and for everything done with your account. Crossleaf is new: we may add, change, pause or withdraw features as we build, and we will say so in the product.

2. What Crossleaf does

Crossleaf is a translation workspace for stories and other text. You bring text you have the right to use; we send it, at your request, to the third-party AI model you choose and give you the result to read, edit, version and export. Translations are produced by machines. They can be wrong, incomplete or oddly worded, and we do not guarantee their accuracy or fitness for any purpose. Check anything that matters.

3. Memberships, Leaves and packs

3.1 Membership

Crossleaf is sold as a monthly membership at the tiers and prices shown on the Add leaves page. A membership includes Crossleaf Standard translation up to a monthly allowance described in the product as capacity, not as money. Standard translation pauses for the rest of the period once the allowance is used, and the allowance resets when your membership renews.

A membership renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time, from Manage plan in Settings; canceling stops the next renewal, your membership runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, and there is no refund for a partial period. We may change membership prices and allowances on notice; a change takes effect at your next renewal.

A membership does not credit leaves, and it is not needed to use leaves you already hold.

3.2 Free chapters

Every new account may translate ten chapters on Crossleaf Standard free of charge. The free chapters are given once per person, are not leaves, have no cash value, and we may change or withdraw the offer for new accounts at any time.

3.3 What leaves are

Leaves are Crossleaf's credits for the premium models, which you select by name. One leaf is worth one US cent. You spend leaves when a premium model does work at your request, such as translating or polishing a chapter. Before a premium job runs we show you a quote and hold that many leaves; when it finishes, you are charged for what the model actually used, at Crossleaf's rates, rounded up to the leaf, which may be a little under or over the quote. The smallest charge for any job is one leaf. A job that fails on our side is refunded in full.

Leaves pay for the work a model does. If a model stops part-way or returns an incomplete chapter, you're charged for the work it did before stopping and the incomplete text is kept for you. If a model spends time thinking and then stops before writing anything, you're charged for that time. If a model never starts, you're not charged.

3.4 Packs

You can buy leaves in one-off packs at the prices shown on the Add leaves page. A pack is not a subscription and does not recur. Pack leaves do not expire. Leaves have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be exchanged for money.

3.5 No refunds

Payments for packs are final and are not refunded, in whole or in part. Membership payments are likewise not refunded for a partial period. This does not limit the automatic refund of leaves for a job that fails on our side under section 3.3, or any right you have under applicable law that cannot be waived.

3.6 Changes to prices

We may change pack prices at any time; the price shown at the time of purchase is the price you pay. Leaves already in your account are not affected by any change in price.

3.7 Payment processing

Payments and memberships are handled by Stripe, including the portal where you cancel or change card. We never see or store your card details. If you hold a monthly plan started before 21 September 2026, it continues under the terms you accepted when you started it until you cancel it from Settings.

4. Your content

  • You keep every right you have in the text you upload and in the translations produced for you.
  • You give us a limited license to store, process, transmit to the model you choose, and display your content, only as needed to provide the service to you.
  • You must have the right to translate the text you submit, whether because you own it, it is in the public domain, you have permission, or your use is otherwise lawful. You are responsible for that judgement. See the Copyright and Takedown Policy for how we handle notices.
  • We do not monitor your library, but we may remove content and suspend accounts in response to valid notices or clear violations.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Crossleaf to:

  • upload content you do not have the right to use;
  • upload or generate content that is illegal, or that sexualizes minors in any form;
  • harass, defraud or harm others;
  • probe, overload or interfere with the service, or circumvent limits, quotas, the free-chapter rules or your membership's monthly allowance;
  • resell or share your account.

The models available through Crossleaf can translate mature fiction. You are responsible for the content you submit and for complying with the law where you live. We may decline any content or account at our discretion.

6. The browser extension

The Crossleaf Capture extension reads the text of a page you choose and adds it to your library. You are responsible for respecting the terms of the sites you capture from. A captured chapter is charged exactly as the same chapter would be in the app — against your membership on Crossleaf Standard, or in leaves on a premium model — and follows the same content rules as the rest of the service.

7. Third-party models

Translations are produced by models operated by other companies through OpenRouter. Their availability, behavior and pricing can change without notice, and a provider may decline to process particular text. We choose providers that do not train on your inputs, but their handling of requests is governed by their own policies.

8. Ending things

You can delete your account in Settings at any time; the 30-day grace period is described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, with notice where practical. Unused leaves are forfeited, and any membership ends without refund, when an account is closed for a breach.

9. Disclaimers

Crossleaf is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or one hundred US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.

11. Indemnity

You will defend and hold us harmless from claims arising from content you upload or from your breach of these terms, including claims that your content infringes someone's rights.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing, please write to us at hello@crossleaf.app; most problems can be sorted out directly.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version with its effective date and, for material changes, tell you in the product before they apply. Continuing to use Crossleaf after that means you accept the new terms.
