How does a membership work?

A membership includes Crossleaf Standard, which translates every chapter. Reader is the everyday tier and Plus gives you twice as much. Cancel any time; it ends at the end of the period.

Crossleaf is a membership. You bring the book; Crossleaf handles the AI.

  • Reader — $6.99 a month. Generous Crossleaf Standard translation, included.
  • Plus — $12.99 a month. Twice as much Crossleaf Standard translation as Reader. Your chapters go to the front of the queue.

Neither tier includes leaves, and neither needs them. Crossleaf Standard translates every chapter you bring, and your membership pays for it.

What the allowance means

A membership comes with a month's worth of translation. Crossleaf describes it the way you would count it yourself — a bar, and about how many chapters are left in this period — rather than in money or in anything you would have to convert.

The figure moves with your own books. A long chapter uses more of the allowance than a short one, so the number of chapters left is an estimate from what your own chapters have been costing, not a fixed quota. A brand-new member sees the site-wide average until she has a history of her own.

If you reach the end of it, Standard translation pauses for the rest of the period and the app tells you when it resets. Reading, editing, exporting and everything else carry on. Plus gives you twice as much, and switching up takes effect at once with the difference prorated by our payment provider. Premium models keep working either way, because they are paid for in leaves and never touch the allowance.

The allowance resets when your membership renews, on the same day each month.

Starting, changing and canceling

You start a membership from the Add leaves page, and it renews monthly until you cancel. Manage plan in Settings opens our payment provider's portal, where you can cancel or change card. To move between tiers, use the Switch to button beside it, which is also on the Add leaves page.

Canceling stops the next renewal and nothing else. Your membership runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep reading until then. There is no refund for part of a period.

If a payment fails, Standard translation pauses until it succeeds. Your books, your translations and any leaves in your balance are untouched, and you can still use premium models.

Where leaves fit

Leaves are bought in one-off packs and spent only on the premium models, the ones you pick by name under Choose the AI. They never expire and nothing about them recurs. A membership does not credit leaves and does not need to. See What are leaves, and what do they pay for?.

The free chapters

A new account gets 10 free chapters on Crossleaf Standard, with no card. When they are used up, a membership is what keeps you reading.
