Copyright and Takedown Policy

How to tell us if something in a Crossleaf library infringes your copyright, and how account holders can respond.

Effective 2 September 2026.

Crossleaf lets readers translate text they have the right to use. We respect the rights of authors and publishers and respond to notices of claimed infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512).

Sending a notice

If you believe material in a Crossleaf library infringes a copyright you own or represent, send a notice to our designated agent with all of the following:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
  3. Enough information for us to find the material, such as the account email or the title and chapters involved.
  4. Your name, address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

Sending a knowingly false notice can make you liable for damages.

What we do

When we receive a complete notice we remove or disable access to the material promptly, tell the account holder, and give them a copy of the notice.

Counter-notice

If you are an account holder and believe material was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same agent with: your signature; identification of the material and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed by mistake; your name, address and telephone number; and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, if outside the United States, any district where we may be found) and that you will accept service from the person who filed the original notice. We may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days unless the original complainant tells us they have filed a court action.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of readers who repeatedly infringe.

A note on private libraries

Libraries on Crossleaf are private to their owner and are not published or shared by the service. Readers are nonetheless responsible for using only text they have the right to translate.
